Safer Gambling
Trusted Play Guide wants gambling to stay what it should be: entertainment with a budget, not a way to make money or to escape a bad week. This page collects the tools every UK-licensed casino must offer, the national schemes that sit above any single operator, and the free help available if things stop feeling fun. None of it is a judgement. Most people who use these tools do so precisely because they want to keep enjoying the games.
Tools you can switch on today
Deposit limits
A daily, weekly or monthly cap on what you can pay in. Since October 2025 UK casinos ask every new customer to set one before their first deposit. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising one is delayed by at least 24 hours, so a decision made in the moment cannot be acted on in the moment.
Session limits and reality checks
Reality checks are on-screen reminders that tell you how long you have been playing and how much you have won or lost. Session limits go further and log you out when the time is up. Both are in the responsible-gambling section of your account.
Time-outs and cool-off periods
A short break — from 24 hours to six weeks — during which you cannot log in or deposit. Useful after a losing streak or a bigger-than-planned win.
Account history
Every licensed site must show your net deposits, withdrawals and results. Look at the twelve-month figure rather than the last week; it is the honest picture.
Self-exclusion
Closing your account for a fixed period of six months or more, during which the operator must not let you play or send you marketing.
GAMSTOP — self-exclude from every UK site at once
GAMSTOP is the free national self-exclusion scheme. Register once, choose six months, one year or five years, and every online gambling business licensed in Great Britain — including all of the casinos we compare — is required to block you. Registration takes a few minutes and cannot be reversed early.
Blocking software and bank blocks
Gamban blocks gambling apps and websites across your phone, tablet and computer, including sites that are not UK-licensed. Most UK banks — including Monzo, Starling, Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest, HSBC and Santander — offer a gambling block on debit cards, usually with a cooling-off period before it can be switched off. Together with GAMSTOP, these three layers are known as TalkBanStop.
Free, confidential help — 24 hours a day
The National Gambling Helpline, run by GamCare, is free from landlines and mobiles on 0808 8020 133, 24 hours a day, every day. Advisers offer support, live chat and referrals to free treatment. See gamcare.org.uk and the TalkBanStop programme at gamcare.org.uk/talk.
- BeGambleAware.org — information, self-assessment and a directory of local support.
- Gordon Moody — residential and online treatment for severe gambling harm.
- Gamblers Anonymous UK — peer-support meetings across the country.
A quick self-check
Answer honestly. Two or more “yes” answers are a good reason to call the helpline.
- Do you spend more than you planned, or chase losses to win money back?
- Have you borrowed money, sold something or missed a bill to gamble?
- Do you gamble to lift your mood or to stop thinking about problems?
- Have you hidden how much you gamble from people close to you?
- Do you feel restless or irritable when you try to cut down?
- Has gambling caused arguments, missed work or lost sleep?
Under 18s
Gambling is strictly for adults. It is a criminal offence for an operator to let anyone under 18 play, and every casino we list verifies age before allowing a deposit. If you are worried about a young person, GamCare’s helpline supports family members too, and YGAM provides education resources for parents and schools.
Our part
We list only Gambling Commission-licensed operators, we show the 18+ rule and the helpline on every page, and we will never describe gambling as a way to earn money. If you think a page on Trusted Play Guide falls short of that, email info@trustedplayguideuk.com.
